Participation Information

For athletes looking to participate in JH Soccer this winter:

Remember that you must have all paperwork turned in, including the following:

  1. CPA Participation Forms  -  Click on the link to submit online.
  2. AIA Physical (required every calendar year)
    • Physical (Pg 1)
    • Physical (Pg 2)
    • Physical (Pg 3)
  3. Fees:

    a)     Participation Fee - The Participation Fee for  2012 - 2013 junior high sports is$165. Online payment is not currently available.  Please make out our check (no cash please) to Chandler Preparatory Academy and include your student's name and sport (i.e., JHS Football) in the memo field.)

    b)     Athletic Trainer's Fee –The bottom line is that we had to make a choice between charging a $15 Athletic Trainer Fee (less than a typical co-pay) and keeping our certified athletic trainer (Bobby Fennell) on staff, or not charging the fee and losing the position.  For numerous reasons we chose the first option.  The year every HS and JHS participant in athletics will pay the participation fee for their sport and an additional $15 Athletic Trainer. When submitting your fee, please write two separate checks, one for the sport and one for the Athletic Trainer Fee.

  4. A copy of your insurance card on file with the athletic office.

*Note: If you played a fall sport and all you paperwork was turned in, you only need to pay the fee*

Thank you players and parents for a great season.

I want to say that this team (both A and B) is the hardest working group I have had here at CPA. I am thankful for the opportunity to coach them and thank you parents for your dedication!

February 5th - From the Athletic Department

Winter Sports Pictures are scheduled to be delivered by LifeTouch Sports Photography to our campus this week.  They will be distributed to head coaches when they arrive and then be distributed to the students.  Students who took an individual picture, but did not order pictures on picture day will receive a small photo with instructions on how to order or you may contact Carolina Fuentes (7am – 3pm M-F) at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or (480) 296-2908.

In addition, I was able to schedule a “make-up’ picture time with LifeTouch on Thursday, February 21 @ 3:45pm.  This is primarily to reshoot the JHS girls CPA 2 soccer team photo, but the photographer will also take individuals for those that now want individual photos but did not sit for them the first time around.  Picture packets (order forms) for “make-ups” will be available from the Athletics office (located next to the gym) approximately a week prior to the photo date.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sunday, February 3rd:

Open Letter to JHS Soccer Athletes and Parents:

Thank you for your patience these past couple of weeks as games had to be rescheduled, and occasionally rescheduled again.  I assure that this is a difficult process, and finding a place for each of the games was a dicey proposition.  I am very happy that when all is said and done that the young men and women will play each of the games that were on their master schedule.  This is always the ultimate goal.

When rescheduling rained-out games the athletic department tries first to place the rescheduled games during regularly scheduled practice times, if possible, and then explores other times available on our home field.  Obviously, if the game is not a Chandler Prep home game on the GHMSL master schedule the process is different, and begins with our opponent finding a date/time at their location (if they rent fields from the city this can be a time consuming process).  For these “away” games it often comes down to either accepting a time that may be difficult for Chandler Prep families or forfeiting the game – something we are very adverse to doing.  Please keep in mind that the games we were able to schedule at our home field as 4:00pm or 4:15pm were likely difficult for parents and families at opposing schools.  Without being too calloused, such is the nature of rescheduling games.

The rescheduling process is always difficult, and the volume of rained-out games that needed to be rescheduled so late in the season (due to weather and field closures) made the last two weeks particularly challenging.  Thank  you all again for your patience and flexibility.

Mr. L. Richard Polley, AD

CPA 1

What a terrific game. This was one of the best played games that a CPA team of mine has ever played. In a battle for first place, our girls came out and played with heart. After a scoreless first half they came out on fire in the second half.

CPA 2

The girls played a very lackluster first half and were down 3-0. At half, I spoke to them and asked them if they felt they could beat Veritas. They all said "YES!". The second half was a different story. The girls came out strong and played their positions correctly. They fought for each ball. They ran hard. They played the best half of soccer they have played all season. They just fell short losing 3-1.

1/31/13

Great game by the CPA 2 team today. They are starting to come together. Smart defense, sound offense, and good ball movement.

1/29/13

The CPA 2 game for this Friday has been changed. It is now going to be played on Tuesday, February 5th, here at CPA at 4:15. This Friday will be a normal CPA 1/CPA2 practice day at Hoopes at 3:45.

THANK YOU for staying with me during these changes.

1/26/13

BOTH GAMES ARE CANCELED TODAY!

1/23/13

WOW!! What a game. I love when I go from happy to mad to happy all in ten minutes. This was a great, heart-stopping game and both teams left it all on the field.

Sidney once again started us off by being in the right place at the right time, taking a corner from Grace and putting it in for her team-leading 9th goal! This was followed by 20 minutes of up and down defensive play. Veritas broke through on a fluke goal that bounced 20 feet high and went over Courtney's head. I was filling out the penalty kick lineup when Em Dem sent a beauty cross that found Avery's foot at the perfect time. She buried it for the game winning goal with 25 seconds left. What a finish!

I have to point out the tough midfield play of Teodora. While she may not score as much as others, she consistently sets the tone with tough play in the middle. She dominated the ball all game. Haley again played an amazing center defense stuffing Veritas all game. Things are coming together. we simply need to work on finishing. Great game!

GO TITANS

1/19/13

This is a busy week of soccer with a CPA 1 game on Wednesday against Veritas, then two games on Satirday, CPA 1 vs Trivium 1 and CPA 2 vs Mesa Prep. Please see schedule for practice times and game locations.

1/12/13

Today was fun. The plan was to swap teams at half, but the B team decided they wanted to stay together and finish the game. While the score may not show it, they came togetehr and played a very tough second half of soccer. The girls were fiery and competitive on both sides, but friends again after 60 minutes of opposition. Great job ladies!

1/9/13

It was a good game. Our girls came out tough and had the game well in hand very quickly. I am very impressed with the way they handled themselves. Our girls didn't do that. I was impressed that they played a solid ball-controlling second half.
Sidney Maxwell started our scoring by netting two goals in two minutes. Kezia Dick added a tally and it was quickly 3-0. Maxwell added her third for the hat trick and Avery added two quick strikes. Kezia netted another goal and Avery scored a hat trick. The half ended with a beauty goal by Bailey Hammonds. The second half we played possession and our defense was given the opportunity to score. Kendall and Em Dem each netted a goal. The final score was 11-0.
We have practice tomorrow and Friday then the CPA 1 vs CPA 2 game on Saturday.  After a team vote and a tally of 13-9, we will play the first half of the game as CPA 1 vs CPA 2. The second half will be a mix of the teams, unless we are tied at the half. It should be fun.

The three stars of the game are:
First Star- Sidney Maxwell-  3 goals, 1 assist, great attitude
Second Star- Avery Smith-  3 goals, great hustle
Third Star- Kezia Dick- 2 goals, 1 assist, always running hard

Go Titans

1/6/13

The schedule is updated-

1/6/13

It was a tough day for CPA soccer, but hopefully one that we can all learn from and grow from.
The CPA 1 team played a very tough Scottsdale Prep team and lost 3-0. The first half was filled with SPA dominance as they scored three quick goals. Our defense settled down and in the second half the team played to what we practiced and the half ended scoreless. Aby played her first half in goal and did very well, while Courtney kept Scottsdale off the board in the second half.

The CPA 2 team lost 6-0 to a tough Trivium squad. The girls struggled to get going early, then played a very tough second half. Anahi and Gabby played tough in keep, splitting the game.

Coach Posner

12/27/12

Practice for tomorrow is canceled so girls can work on their projects! See you in a week.

12/17/12

ALL PRACTICES THIS WEEK HAVE BEEN MOVED TO HOOPES!

12/14/12

Good morning,

Practice is canceled today.

Both games are canceled tomorrow.

NO GAMES THIS WEEKEND.

I will send out the practice schedule for next week at a later time.

Coach Posner

12/9/12

Good evening,

Led by hat-tricks by Maggee Miller and Haley Wolf, CPA1  won 11-0. What impressed me more, was the way the young ladies handled themselves. It is very easy to get over-confident or even unsportsmanlike when you are up by a large amount.  That did not happen.

The three stars of our game are:

Third star- Kendall- AMAZING keeping skills- actually, she has asked for three seasons to play keeper, and today she made three saves. Nice job Squirrel!
Second star- Courtney- the win in goal, two assists, and her first goal from the field!
First stars- Maggee and Haley- hat-tricks for both and great effort.

The girls are 2-0 and the first real tough test comes this Saturday against a new and improved Veritas team.
Coach Posner

12/1/12

This was a rough one, but I do see many good things. Anytime a team loses 12-0, the door is opened for anger, sadness, and poor attitudes. I saw none of this today and honestly, it is not needed. Scottsdale Prep fields 13 club players and 2 junior olympic hopefuls. These girls play together year round on three different club teams. It stands to reason that they will have a higher skill level than our girls. The first half had our girls playing off their game, but the second half showed Coach Milton and I that practices are working and the girls are learning. They played their positions well and started to get the ball down field in the second half. I am very excited to work off of this game and be able to specifically show the girls what they need to improve on.

Third star-  Kezia Dick- consistent ball movement on offense

Second star- Verlee Richey- tough defense and good feel for the field

First star- Parker Mirich- Everywhere she could possibly be and the quickest to the ball all game

Go Titans!

Coach Posner

11/30/12

Good evening,

The CPA 1 team started the year off on a high note, beating North Phoenix Prep 7-0! The game got off to a slow start, and at half we held a 2-0 lead. Em Dempsey started the scoring off with a 20 yard strike that sailed over the keepers head. The next goal was on a beauty corner kick by Grace Erispaha that Avery Smith timed perfectly, sending it sailing into the goal. Things really opened up in the 2nd half. Sidney Maxwell became a force and scored two goals, one crashing the net and not giving up on a ball. She also assisted on two goals by Olivia Vilaboy, who was playing in her first ever game for CPA! Grace Erispaha added a tally on a perfect strike. The girls played very well and Kendall Staring and Aby Bizuneh didn't allow anyone past the defense.

In keeping with my hockey roots, I will again hand out three stars after each game.. These represent the top three players of the game:

Third Star- Grace Erispaha- 1 goal, 2 assists and our bets ball handler today

Second Star- Olivia Vilaboy- 2 goals in her first ever game for CPA

First Star- Sidney Maxwell-  2 goals, 2 assists in her first game as a forward.

Go Titans!!

11/29/12

PRACTICE NOTICE**

Practice begins at 3:30. ALL girls are expected to be outside, in front of the school by that time. At 3:30, the girls will leave, as a group. I understand that at times, events occur that may result in a player arriving outside late. If the team has already left, that player must do one of two things: 1- find a teamate who is also late and run to the practice field together, or 2- have a parent transport them to practice. Under no circumstance should a player run to the practice field alone. This has not occured, but I wanted to be sure the rule was clear.

Thanks

Coach Posner

11/25/12

**ALL GIRLS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND THE SATURDAY GAME**

11/23/12

We had a very good practice today as the girls (and I) worked off our Thanksgiving feast. These are the practices that help the team grow. I am already seeing improvement from all of the girls. This promises to be a great season. It takes tough work and dedication. Practices are vital and attendance at practices is vital .This week we have practice on Tuesday and Thursday. CPA 1 has a road game Friday afternoon and CPA 2 has a game Saturday morning against a tough rival. CPA 2 will practice at Hoopes on Friday and ALL girls are expected to attend the game on Saturday. We are a team!

A note from Coach Polley- PLEASE be sure the girls are storing their athletic bags (if they use them) on the shelves across from Room 309- near the gym locker rooms. Administration will be on the lookout for misplaced bags.

Thanks and GO TITANS!!

Coach Posner

11/19/12

Reminder- Practice on Tuesday, 11/20, is on the CPA field!

Mandatory Parent Meeting  Tuesday, after practice. 5:30 CPA cafeteria.

Coach Posner

11/18/12

From Coach Milton:

Most of the girls, being new, approached the game with nervous excitement. The nervousness quickly died, however, as the girls clearly dominated the game from the beginning. This game was not only a great morale booster, but an excellent learning experience as well. Bailey and Rosalie persistently encouraged the girls to spread the field, and eventually we were playing the wings more, with the intended result of far more shots on goal. Needless to say, at the end of the game the girls were really pumped.

3 stars of the game:

Keziah many shots on goal

Bailey leadership and scored her first goal

Sedona tenacious defensive support to the forwards --she was everywhere as center mid! Thanks to her, the defense saw hardly any action.

11/16/12

Good evening,
The first game for the CPA 2 team is set for Saturday at 2:45pm. The game is against Trivium Prep. Girls are expected to be at the field no later than 2:00. There is a boys game after the girls game for any interested in staying.

11/13/12

Practice this week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 330-515. Practices will be at Hoopes Park. There will be a a mandatory parent meeting on Tuesday, November 20th at 530pm in the CPA Cafeteria. All parents must attend. Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to: schedule, expectations, attendance policy.

Rosters will be set by Tuesday evening. This season we field two teams, CPA1  and CPA 2. While there are two teams, we are one. We will practice together, work together, and grow together. Any spot is open at any time on any roster. Girls will be called up and girls will be moved down. I have discussed this with the team and I do not expect any issues. With 29 girls, we have varying skill levels. Two teams allows me to develop and train properly for the soccer program.

This should be a tough week of practice as we work on cardio and conditioning. In the end, the girls will be stronger and ready to go!

Go Titans!

11/10/12

We are off and running! Well most girls are running.. some still have the off-season rust to deal with. ;) So do I! We are working on forming our positions and getting our two teams set. We have a great group of girls to work with this year. There will be a mandatory parent meeting this week. Details to follow.

If you have not turned in the $165 athletic fee and the $15 trainer fee, please do so by Monday. It is important that these fees are paid immediately, especially with the first games net weekend.

Go Titans!!

Coach Posner

 11/6/12

Please note that we may be using the "upper" field today when you pick up your child. This field is located just east of the main field.

Coach Posner

 10/31/12

Good evening,
**Please email me immediately if your daughter is no longer planning on being part of the soccer team this season.**

My name is Jarrod Posner and I am the head coach for the girls junior high soccer club. Upon the completion of the first couple of practices I will send out a more extensive email.
The first practice is Tuesday, November 6th from 3:30-5:15. The practice will be held at Hoopes Park. Website Link: https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&;q=hoopes+park+chandler&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bpcl=37189454&biw=1366&bih=650&wrapid=tlif135171512417310&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl
The girls will meet in front of the school at 3:25pm. I do need one or two parent volunteers to meet up front at 3:25 to load the bags for the girls.
From the school, the girls will run together to Hoopes. This park is .6 miles from school. We used it for most of last season.
Set practices will be Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:30-5:15. Once I have a set roster (by the end of next week) the school website will be the primary source of communication.
For Tuesday, the girls need water, cleats, running sneakers, shin guards, and proper practice clothing (shorts, shirts- no tank tops or spaghetti straps, sofe's or spankies for under their shorts, and a ready-to-work-attitude!
Please feel free to email me with any questions.
I am looking forward to a very successful season.
Coach Posner

Here are a few items to get started with JHS Girls Soccer:

Primary Communication: I will be utilizing the Chandler Prep website Coach's Blog as the vehicle for my regular weekly communication with parents.  Emails will be reserved for changes from what is communicated through the blog or emergency communication. Practices and game information will be posted to the website on the JHS Girls Soccer sports calendar accessible online on the JHS girls soccer page of the chandlerprep.org website under the “Schedules” tab. I will post my weekly information under the coach’s blog and e-mail will only be used for non-routine circumstances. Please check the coach’s blog frequently, as important information will always be posted there first!

Once you've read through the information below feel free to email me at the email listed on this site with any questions, comments or concerns. I will work very hard to reply to your emails as soon as I can.

AIA Physicals:  Please print off the 3 forms listed under the “Participation Information” tab and if needed have your physical conducted for the 2011-12 season.  Each athlete must have all three (3) pages of an up-to-date (completed after 3-15-11) physical  for the 2011 season on the pre-printed AIA form completed and on file with the Athletic Department prior to the day of our first practice (Monday, November 7, 2011).  Please note that Page 2 of the form must be completed by a physician.

*** If you do not have an up to date physical on file at school, and are planning on going to your primary physician for one, be aware that in some cases you may not be able to get an appointment with your family doctor for a physical for several weeks. Please note that your athlete will not be allowed to practice until their physical is completed. Missing practice and tryouts will most likely result in your athlete not being put on a team. Keep in mind that there are other places, like Fry's or any Urgent Care, that will complete same day sports physicals for $25 - $30. Remember to bring your signed AIA forms to the Athletic Department before the first day of practice.

On-line forms: These forms can be found under the Pre-Participation tab and must be filled out on-line (takes about 2-3 minutes).

Copy of Insurance Card: Each athlete must provide either a hard-copy of the players family insurance card (FRONT AND BACK), or a written and signed note from their parent’s to the effect that they do not have health insurance.

Payment of Participation Fee: The fee of $165 must be paid or payment arrangements made PRIOR TO THE FIRST PRACTICE.  This is a new policy and it will be enforced.  Those athlete/families that have applied for FAIR waiver should note that athletic fees are not automatically waived even if you’ve applied to FAIR.  If you need to discuss a fee waiver contact Mr. Polley directly via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Dress Code: Please come to practice each day in proper attire. Proper attire includes is different for different sports but should include: soccer cleats (NO Converse, Vans, school shoes, or gym shoes), sliding shorts and baseball pants, athletic t-shirt – free of logos (Chandler Prep shirts preferred), and shinguards/ball (first is not optional  - 2nd one is).

** We had a bit of a problem last year with JHS students forgetting their shoes for practice.  Athletes will not be allowed to participate in practice if you do not wear the proper shoes.  Also, if you need a glove, and your family cannot afford one, please let Coach know ASAP as we can likely locate one for your use.

Camps: There is no CPA preseason JHS soccer camp.

Which Team/How many teams? Our JHS sport turnouts continue to grow, and while we’d like to provide every athlete that desires to compete for their school a chance to do so the league structure and finances may not allow us to do so.  Some sports will be limited to a set number of athletes (volleyball A & B, baseball, softball, basketball A & B) while many others will not face such limitations (football, x-country, soccer, track).  Any athlete that does tryout for one team, fails to make that team, and desires to transfer their fee to another sport (i.e., one without limitations on enrollment)  can do so without penalty.  Please contact Mr. Polley ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) directly with this request and he will walk you through the process.  Teams that are not limited in space, such as girls soccer, may still have tryouts and will use those tryouts to divide athletes into teams. In matters related to tryouts the coach’s word/decision will be final.

** Athletes that do not make a Chandler Prep team and do not desire to transfer to another sport will have their fee refunded.

Tryouts/Evaluation:   The current plan is to have one large team of JHS girls.

As such there will not be a “set” day for tryouts – tryouts will happen every practice as girls demonstrate their skills and build new ones.  The first practice for JHS girls soccer is Monday, November 7.  In evaluating the girls. the coaching staff will utilize an objective grading criteria to assess each player's abilities, teamwork, communication, drive, motivation, energy, attitude, coachability, etc.

Team Structure: I will address all issues such as absences, tardies, academics, games, practices, uniform, conduct, attitude, team captains, and sportsmanship during the first week of practice and include the information for parents/families in my 2nd blog.

Volunteer Opportunities: I will be asking for volunteers for games for many jobs.  A complete list of those opportunities will be in my 2nd blog.

Parent involvement is vital for us to provide the experience your athlete deserves. We had awesome parents last year who really did a lot for our team in so many ways. Your athlete will really appreciate your support at games and it will be fun for you to play a role in their Titan athletic career.

I’m ready for a Great Season!!!

 GO TITANS!
